China’s Ministry of Commerce: Beijing and Washington to strengthen macroeconomic policy coordination

China’s Ministry of Commerce confirmed that U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He will meet in Switzerland, noting that the meeting will be aimed at strengthening macroeconomic policy coordination.

Earlier, online portal Axios quoted a US Treasury Department official as saying that Yellen would meet Liu He in Switzerland on Wednesday to discuss the global economic situation.

“The Chinese and US trade and economic delegations have maintained a good level of communication. Chinese Vice Premier Liu He and US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen will meet in Zurich, Switzerland, on January 18 to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state in Bali and to enhance macroeconomic and financial policy coordination,” the Commerce Department said in a statement.

The next meeting of the WEF will be held in Davos, Switzerland on January 16-20. The theme of the meeting is “Cooperation in a Fragmented World”. The forum’s programme is dedicated to cooperation between the public and private sectors to solve the world’s most pressing problems, it also calls on world leaders to work together on energy, climate and trade issues.
