Kiev mayor Klitschko asks Switzerland to supply Ukraine with air defence systems despite neutrality

Kiev mayor Vitaliy Klitschko has asked Switzerland to give up its neutrality and give Ukraine air defence systems, Blick has said.

“I ask Switzerland to supply means of protection that protect people’s lives, such as air defence systems,” the newspaper quoted him as saying.

Journalists reminded the mayor about the Swiss law on neutrality, which bans the supply of weapons to countries where there are armed conflicts.

“When it comes to human rights, life and death, war and peace, you cannot be neutral. You have to show a stand… We understand Switzerland and its neutrality. But… when it comes to shared values, you cannot be neutral,” Klitschko replied.

Earlier, Radio Sputnik reported that Swiss President Alain Berset opposed the re-export of weapons to Ukraine.
