Honduras to present a proposal in Davos to create a coffee-exporting countries organisation

The Honduran government will present at the World Economic Forum in Davos a proposal to create a coffee-exporting countries organisation, the country’s president, Xiomara Castro, said.

“At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on behalf of producers, we will propose the creation of an Organisation of Coffee Exporting Countries (OPEC) and thus compete on world markets at fair prices,” the politician wrote on her Twitter blog.

Honduras is the third largest coffee producer in the Americas after Brazil and Colombia and the fifth largest in the world, with coffee being grown by farmers in most parts of the country. Honduran coffee exports from the 2021-2022 crop have exceeded six million bags, the crop accounts for about 38 per cent of gross domestic agricultural production.
